'Locals-Only' CLOSED by PRIVATE LANDOWNER

Unfortunatley I have some really bads news to report today. Sometime this week the 'property owner' of the area we all call 'Locals Only' is now 'CLOSED' indefinenately until problems with this particular owner can be resolved. Several tree's have been 'downed' crossing and blocking this section of trail.

It was reported to me today while driving around the heights of Hood River that our beloved Post Canyon supporter Andrew Denniak of New York Subs was involved in a 30+ mile an hour crash, destroying his prized Ellsworth Evolution 29r and Fox 29r Fork on "locals Only" doing a total of $3400 in damage. He was extremely lucky to not suffer any injuries and was able to 'limp' his bike down to his vehicle. So in honor of Andrew D, we ask everyone to stop by his FAMOUS Hood River NY Sub Shop and grab a bite this week. Here's a ghastily image of his bike sitting at Dirty Fingers for repair.

Henry Buckalew of Hood River County Forest Management has posted a 'Trail Closure' notice on the HR County website today. Until further notice- lets get the word out to fellow bikers before they head out. Signs are being constructed as I type this out and will be in place informing anyone 'not in the loop' of the closure. Please leave me a comment if you notice anything odd or out of the usual on the trails. Stay viligent folks. We need the eyes and ears.

New Trail 'Bad Motor Scooter' POV GoPro Run!

Starting out with some angles on 'Extended Play' trying to figure out which one is good. Then I just decide to pedal right into and down the newest trail in Post Canyon called 'Bad Motor Scooter' which will connect riders to 'Lower GP' to 'Baby GP' and down to the 'Family Man' area. This trail was built in 5 months, by over 120 vounteers and just over a total of 1000 hours to get it open. Over the next four to five years even more features, jumps and skill enhacing 'Technical Terrain Features' will be addded. For now, enjoy and watch this trail mature into one of Post Canyon's 'Most Used' trail. Fine tuning and lots of shovel work is being done thru May, so be prepared for updates and improvements.

'ChorusX' is undergoing major rennovation. Be careful if your riding down it. 'Drop Out' is still undergoing some renovations as well. I will update this blog as soon as I hear they are open for riding. Enjoy your weekend!

Seven Streams Work Party April 23rd!

Source: Jim Skakel/CAMBA

Saturday April 23rd from 9:00 to 12:00

Meet at the map kiosk at bottom of Post Canyon Drive

This is a 'Seven Streams'  trail work party. Tasks will include cutting back areas to improve line of sight issues and some general problem solving trail maintenance needs.

Bring shovels, clippers, loppers, pulaskis and McClouds if you have them. The forecast is party cloudy with warm temperatures so the dirt should be perfect for digging. We won't be building anything new-- just looking after what we have.

If you have any questions please contact Jim Skakel at 541 490-9632.

Post Canyon Clean Up Day Shout Out and New Trail News!

Huge shout out to Jim Skakel and Jeff Blackman for executing todays Annual Post Canyon Clean Up day. I saw a few people like Rick Higgens, Ryan Goodwin, Chico B's ENTIRE FAMILY, The Mudrys' and Dave Bisset. But didn't see too many other folks. Oh well. Cherry Blossom Festival was in full bore.

After Ryan Goodwin and I picked up about 200lbs of garbage we headed up 'Bad Motor Scooter' to punch the last 40 yards of trail open. Here's some crappy cell phone pictures to show you all......get hyped. The newest trail is about to be fully open its gonna be fun! Thanks to Kieth and Justina for appearing outta nowhere to help out too!

Great Attendance at Recent 'Post Canyon' Work Party

Something magical happens when 40+ people, 8 dogs, 3 machines, 4 wheelbarrows, numerous McLeods, rakes, shovels and the lure of one cold keg of 'Everybody's Beer' created massive improvements. Sam Pinner, Gary Paasch, Jim Mudry and Dave Bisset led the charge with several crews digging and creating some impressive results.

Huge thanks to NY Sub and Everybodys Brewing for the nourishments. Raffle goodies supplied by GoPro, Dakine, ODI, Smith Optics and Yakima Racks.

Enjoy the photos.

Trying out new materials

Power to get the trail done.

1988 Jr World Snowboarding Champ and Legend Mike Jacoby was a huge help behind scenes and delivered the 50 Sub Sandwiches courtesy of Hood Rivers 'NY Sub Shop' for the hungry volunteers.

Everyone loved the keg and we started drinking 'Everybody's Beer'

Chris Elsmore was secretly working on his trail 'Drop Out'
'Bad Motor Scooter' is coming along very nicely.

Next work party is planned for Apr 16th. Allot of people will be at Sea Otter but I'm staying local to finish 'Bad Motor Scooter' and if anyone wants to help just be at the bottom of 'Bad Motor Scooter' at 9am, bring water, gloves, tools and snacks to bust open this new trail. No raffle, no ouside support. This one is gonna be on a regular scale. I do believe Apr 16th will the the 'Annual Post Canyon Clean Up Day' and will confirm that soon. I'm packing for my first family vacation and won't be updating this blog till after April 12th. Until then- get your bikes dialed with new goodies and we will see you out 'n about.

Hard Partying Squirrels Spotted In Family Man

Source: National Geographic NW Squirrel Forecasting Center

Be warned. Recently several bikers have complained about excessive verbal abuse and heckling from a family of 'hard partying squirrels' located just NW of the 'Rhythm Trail' area. Images from local sources show a group of young adolescent tree climbing shrews have moved in the area causing 'territorial' incidents. Local agencies advise all bikers to ride with 'eyes peeled' and 'stay vigilant' when encountering these highly intoxicated rodents. If you witness or are the victim of recent abuse. Contact the local sheriffs office immediatley with description and location of your incident.

As of today, there have been over 50 reported complaints.

One longstanding local Couger uttered this warning to the squirrels "if any of those nut eating furry tail rats come near my den well just be prepared to meet your maker."

UPDATE: Early this morning a local vigilante Ford F250 took the law into his own hands and killed one of the squirrels rumored to be hanging out with this "Family Man Squirrel Posse"
